Welcome to the first newsletter from the Downderry community shop project steering group. Thank you to everyone who has subscribed, we hope you find this newsletter useful, please do share it with friends and family who live locally.
Steering group news Project progress update The steering group is currently meeting weekly and work is progressing on many fronts. The first priority is to find a suitable site for a community shop and the group is exploring opportunities. While these discussions continue, some alternative provisions have been arranged to enable continuity of access to some basic services previously provided by Downderry Stores.
Newspapers A scheme has been set up to continue daily and weekend newspapers. Order and pay in advance for your regular newspapers at Tredinnick Farm Shop, Widegates (coupons accepted). Collect your newspapers from The Inn on the Shore, Downderry from 9am weekdays and Saturdays, and 10am Sundays. Shopping locally While the community shop project is still in development, local shops and services are offering assistance for those who want or need to shop locally... Downderry Community Bus The community bus has started a service to the Tredinnick Farm Shop, beginning 4 September. The bus will leave every Monday at 9.15am and every Thursday at 1.15pm, from Broads Yard. Please book your seat by calling Bev Brighton on 01503 250944. Bewshea's There are plans in place for a chiller cabinet to be set up to sell milk, bread, eggs and basics. Please look out for news on the Community Shop Facebook page and website. Paul Bray butchers Deliveries to Downderry and the surrounding areas for a minimum order of £20 and £1 delivery. 01752 851224. Post Office news The weekly Post Office outreach service will operate from St Nicolas Church for the time being. From Tuesday 5th September the service will be available every Tuesday and Friday afternoons 1pm - 3pm.
Thank you to everybody who has shared their interest in volunteering in a Community Shop. The steering group will be in touch with you in the weeks to come. Thank you to Downderry & Seaton Residents' Association for agreeing to fund the start up costs for the Community Shop project. This has enabled us to very quickly set up a website and community channels, and to join the Plunkett Foundation which offers crucial support to projects like ours.
